ABOUT THE MEETING:  

Significant technology enablers have spurred the recent explosion in remotely controlled aircraft.  Commercial operations using Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) are severely restricted at the present time, but 3D Aerial Solutions and others in the industry are providing services for hire under the FAA’s ‘interim’ rules.  Rotary wing and fixed wing aircraft each have unique capabilities suitable a wide variety of applications.  This talk will survey a number of commercial applications with which 3D Aerial is involved with special emphasis on aerial imaging and spectral analysis of soil and crops for use in precision agriculture applications.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:  

Mr. Michael Gilkey is co-founder, Chief Executive Officer and Director of FlightOperations for 3D Aerial Solutions, LLC.  He is a certified private pilot and a commercial unmanned aircraft system (UAS) pilot with over 43 hours as UAS pilot in command.  He has a MSEE from University of Colorado, a BSEE from Purdue University and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). He has 30 years’ experience in engineering, most of which spent supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright Patterson AFB, OH.  He is a systems engineering expert in intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and automatic target recognition systems using airborne radar, full motion video and lidar sensor systems.

LOCATION: Raffel’s is located at 10160 Reading Road, south of Glendale-Milford Road on the east side of Reading. Take I-75 to the Glendale-Milford Rd. Exit, go east on Glendale-Milford Road approximately ¾ of a mile to Reading Rd. and turn right on Reading.

WALK-INS (those without reservations): You are welcome to attend this meeting and/or enjoy the dinner even if you did not register in advance. Walk-ins pay a higher $15 dinner fee. Raffel’s determines our cost based on the number of plates used; if you choose to have dinner, please pay the fee if you eat even if you arrive late or didn’t pre-register.

PE CREDITS:  Depending on the subject matter, attendance at IEEE Cincinnati Section Meetings now qualifies the attendee for Professional Development Hours towards renewal of Professional Engineers Licenses. Required documentation will be available following the meeting!  The Section Meetings also provide a great opportunity to network with fellow engineers in the area.
