Significant technology enablers have spurred the recent explosion in remotely controlled aircraft.  Commercial operations using Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) are severely restricted at the present time, but 3D Aerial Solutions and others in the industry are providing services for hire under the FAA’s ‘interim’ rules.  Rotary wing and fixed wing aircraft each have unique capabilities suitable a wide variety of applications.  This talk will survey a number of commercial applications with which 3D Aerial is involved with special emphasis on aerial imaging and spectral analysis of soil and crops for use in precision agriculture applications.

Mr. Michael Gilkey is co-founder, Chief Executive Officer and Director of FlightOperations for 3D Aerial Solutions, LLC.  He is a certified private pilot and a commercial unmanned aircraft system (UAS) pilot with over 43 hours as UAS pilot in command.  He has a MSEE from University of Colorado, a BSEE from Purdue University and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). He has 30 years’ experience in engineering, most of which spent supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright Patterson AFB, OH.  He is a systems engineering expert in intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and automatic target recognition systems using airborne radar, full motion video and lidar sensor systems.
